PARNELL RATEPAYERS FORM ASSOCIATION
23 ATTEND MEETING Parnell last evening joined the throng of ratepayers’ associations which have been formed all over the city by the efforts of Messrs. Lundon, Murray and Taylor. Parnell did not appear to be very enthusiastic, however. Out of 7,500 ratepayers round the area, only four had put in an appearance at the time the meting was timed to start. A quarter of an hour later there was just a baker’s dozen, and the meeting finally started with 23, including visitors Mr. A. Blanchard presided. Mr Taylor hoped to see 10 associations with 2,000 members before the next election, all offering constructive criticism of civic affairs. Mr. Murray told the story of his troubles as a councillor. The meeting decided to set up an association, and elected the following officers: —President, Mr. W. H. De Renzy; vice-president, Mr. A. Blanchard; secretary, Mr. J. B. Speed; committee, Messrs. W. H. White, G. Scarborough, J. Bate, J. O’Hara and S. Sanders.
