NORTHCOTE BOROUGH
COUNCIL DELIBERATIONS In reply to a request from the Takapuna Borough Council to supply the residents of that borough residing in Northcote Road with water, it was slecided by the Northcote Borough Council at its ordinary meeting last evening to do so at 2s a 1,000 gallons, the same price as that charged to residents in the Waitemata County. A scheme for the improvement of the children’s recreation area in the recreation reserve is to be prepared by the borough overseer, and an estimate of the cost submitted to the council for its approval. The secretary of the Northcote branch of the New Zealand Labour Party advised that the c branch was holding a series of whist drives, the profits from which will be handed to the council in aid of the unemployed fund. The letter was acknowledged with thanks. A cheque for £25 was received from the secretary of the Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Association, to be subsidised as arranged, and to be used for relieving unemployed returned soldiers. It was mentioned that this had been carried out by the council and the money spent as desired. As their was considerable unemployment in the borough among returned soldiers, it was decided to ask for a further contribution if any moneys are available from the Canteen Fund. The striking of the rate of 3d in the £1 on the unimproved value of the borough was formally moved. This includes water, and is the same as last year. It was decided to hold a special meeting of the council next Monday to confer with Mr. Greville Walker, engineer, regarding the expenditure of various loans accounts.
