MT. ALBERT BOROUGH MEETING OF COUNCIL On a basis of unimproved value, rates for the year in the Mount Albert Borough were fixed at 7}d in the £, exclusive of water and sanitation charges, at fast evening’s council meeting. The unimproved system is being used in the borough this year for the first time. Estimates on the general account provided for the expenditure of £18,835 during the year. It was proposed to spend £9,334 on public works, and another item was £l,lOO foi* the purchase of additional land for Gribblehirst Park formation. Estimated receipts were £17,335, and a debit balance of £1,500 at the end of the year was expected. Issue of 29 building permits during the three weeks ended June 22 was reported. Total value was £10,688, £4,970 of which was for seven dwellings, £3,900 for five brick shops and dwellings, and £I,OOO for a hall. The erection of three new service stations in the borough was reported and notification of the installation of an automatic alarm at Argyle Street railway crossing, Morningside, was received. For Richardson Road reconstruction, 12 tenders were received, the lowest, £8,669, being accepted.
