MINING NEWS

Alburn ia: The manager reports:—“The drive has been advanced a further 17ft. and the country in the face is firmer and the leader is much the same as that reported last week.’’ Kuranui: The manager reports.—“ The drive on the Ross reef has been extended a further 9ft for the week, making a total of 19ft. The country is still a. little broken up after passing through the break, but is of a very fair class for making gold. The reef still maintains its size and a few colours of gold w r ere seen at the last breaking down. The crosscut from the intermediate level has been extended a further 6ft for the week, making a total of 61ft from the starting point. The country being passed through in this drive is all that could be desired for making gold. Another 20ft of driving here should bring us under where we should meet with Barry's reef.” Occidental Una: The manager reports.— “The Loyalty reef has been opened up for a distance of 12ft. The reef is Sft wide, from wall to' wall and is composed of quartz seams 4 to Sin wide, intermixed with horses of mullock. These seams should come together and make a solid body of quartz as the face advances as we are driving both east and west on the reef. Nice colours and dabs of gold have been seen in the ore broken. Trial crushing should be completed in about a fortnight.’*
