Challenges on Way for English Trophy
BUT WHO HOLDS IT?
SOCCER AFFAIRS At the meeting of the Management Committee of the Auckland Football Association last evening, it was stated that a challenge from Otago for the English trophy was on the way to Auckland, and that Wellington also was considering sending in a challenge. The decision of the English Football Association as to whether Auckland or Canterbury holds the trophy has not yet been received. Mr. F. C. Jacobs, ex-president of the Auckland Football Association, outlined a scheme for providing hot showers at Blandford Park. This system would supply 22 players at a time with three gallons of water each heater, to 140 degrees, Mr. Jacobs explained. He also stated that the small expense which would be incurred by installing this system could be made up by the A.F.A. either running a refreshment system itself or selling the rights. The matter was referred to the Finance Committee for consideration. CHATHAM CUP DATES On the casting vote of the chairman, the committee decided to stage a match between H.M.S. Dunedin and U.M.S. Philomel at Blandford Park at 1.30 on Saturday. A telegram was received from the New Zealand Council stating that they could receive no further* entries for the Chatham Cup competition. The committee decided to play the first round of the local portion of the competition on Saturday week, July 7, the match to be preceded by -a junior grade game. * The midget games will be discontinued at Blandford Park for the next month or so, on account of the condition of the ground.
