CAPITAL REDUCED
BALDWINS, LIMITED WAR HITS FIRM HARD (United P.A. —By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian P.A.—United Service) Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. The shareholders in the iron and steel firm of Baldwin’s, Limited, passed resolutions reducing the capital from £8,000,000 to £4,213,568. Sir Robert Horne, presiding, said the company’s present plight was largely due to the generous response the company made to the Government’s urgent requests during the war. It extended its plant to meet the nation's necessities, only to find when peace arrived that it had burdened itself with capital charges which showed little or no return of revenue. One branch built at great cost during the war was responsible for a capital loss approximating £1,000.000.
