MALING DISMISSED
SYDNEY CIVIC SCANDAL CITY DEMANDS £10,600 ACTION OF COMMISSIONERS (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) SYDNEY, Monday. The Sydney Civic Commissioners have decided not to accept the resignation of the deputy-manager of the electricity department, Silas Y. Maling, dated June 1, but haye dismissed him as from the date of his suspension. The commissioners have also instructed the civic authorities to demand the deposit by Maling into the city funds of £10,600, the sum said to have been received by him as secret commission in connection with the contract for the supply of a steam-rais-ing plant. The city solicitor has been instructed to obtain an opinion as to the recovery of the money from the other persons concerned. One of the civic commissioners, Mr. Merton, says a judge will be engaged for the next six months in sifting Sydney civic scandals, and the commissioners will ask that one Royal Commission shall conduct all the inquiries,
