TRAIN HITS METAL-LORRY DRIVER’S ARM MANGLED Press Association. WANGANUI, To-day. A mixed goods and passenger train, which connects at Marton with the Auckland express and brings passengers to Wanganui, this morning hit a five-ton lorry, laden with metal, at Cherry Bank level crossing. The lorry driver, J. Minnell, was crushed under the wreckage of the lorry’s radiator and had his left arm almost torn off. He was taken to hospital where an operation was performed. He is in a critical condition. _ _ The lorry was completely wrecked and the casing and several steam pipes on the engine were broken and the cowcatcher badly buckled. The track for a distance of about ten feet was torn up and the railway repair staff had to bring out a crane for repair work.
