Reid, of Te Awamutu, is the guest of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Ernest Reid, Remuera. * * * Mrs. Wyn Gray, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs. Bull, in Auckland, has returned to Hamilton. • * * Mrs. McGuire has returned to New Plymouth after spending several weeks in Auckland and the Bay of Plenty. At the Grand Hotel are Mr. and Mrs. H. Gregory, of Ceylon, and Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Smith and the Misses Smith, of Sydney. * * * Mrs. C. L. Phillpotts, of Marlborough, and Miss T. M. Phillpotts, are visitors to Auckland and are staying at the Hotel Stonehurst. * * * Miss Margaret McKenzie Aitken has returned from the South and is the guest of Mrs. Buddie, of Victoria Avenue, Remuera. * * * Mrs. Ferner, who was the guest of Mrs. Kent-Johnson during her stay in Hamilton, returned to Auckland today. Yesterday she motored to Camp Ferguson, a movement in which she is much interested. A CORRECTION A photograph of Miss Sylvia Maxwell, of Rotorua, was published in The Sun on Saturday last over the announcement of her engagement. Miss Maxwell’s fiance’s name should have read Mr. Neil McDougall, instead of Mr. Neil McDonald.
TENNIS CLUB DANCE BRIGHT FUNCTION The United Tennis Club held a very enjoyable bridge and dance evening in the Click Clack last evening. Palms and potted shrubs looked very attractive in the lounge, where the bridge tables were arranged and upstairs in the ballrooiji softly shaded lights threw into mysterious relief the eastern effect of the panelled walls. Novelty favours distributed during the evening added considerably to the enjoyment of the dancers. Committee members present included: — Mrs. Coltman, frock of cyclamen georgette with silver lace inset. Mrs. J. Fernley, frock of beige georgette with petal pointed skirt. Miss F. Irvine, frock of ecru lace and parchment coloured georgette. Miss M. Irvine, cloth of silver model with pink georgette frills on the skirt. Miss Wagstaff, bouffant frock of cherry gros-grain taffeta. Miss D. O’Neill, leaf green taffeta frock with hem of silver lace. Miss D. Alder, cloth of silver corsage with circular coral pink georgette skirt and bands of brilliante relief. Miss V. Wheaten, delphinium blue georgette frock with vandycked hem and girdle of rhinestones. Miss G. McLaye, cloth of gold corsage with georgette skirt of Cuban orange in two finely pleated tiers. Miss Y. SURPRISE PARTY A large number of friends gave a surprise party on Saturday to Miss Agnes Graham and Mr. Mat Laird at Mrs. Laird’s home, Armadale Road, Remuera. HAMILTON NOTES (From Our Own Correspondent J HAMILTON, Monday. Aliss Val Watts is at present in Napier, where she hopes to stay some weeks. Miss Betty Alatthews, of Kio Kio, was the guest of Airs. O’Sullivan last week. * * * * Mrs. de Lacy Peake and Aliss Eleanor Peake, of Hairini, are at present in Gisborne. Airs. Norman Collins left on Friday by the Marama for Sydney, where she will spend the winter. PRESENTATION Last week the women of Arapuni gave a very delightful afternoon tea in the social hall, kindly lent by Mr. E. J. Darby, for Mrs. F. W. A. Handman. About 60 guests were present. Mrs. R. AlcEwan, on behalf of those present, asked Airs. Handman to accept a handsome travelling rug and set of afternoon tea spoons. All present had frequently experienced much kindness and hospitality from Airs. Handman during her three and a-half years in Arapuni. * * * BRIDGE AT NGARUAWAHIA A very enjoyable bridge afternoon was organised by Airs. H. Rogers in Ngaruawahia on Thursday afternoon. It was held in the Alasonic Hall and the proceeds were given toward the Croquet Club. Airs. Rogers received her guests in a Lrock of navy and beige marocain. with becoming hat to match. Among those present were: Alesdames W. Paterson. J. Joy. W. Adams.' Cavanagh, Alasefield, Fraser, Eyre’ W. Brown, Woollams, Fuller, H J Thompson, H. Bolton, T. Saulberry,’ W. McGruer, D. McKeown, Gerring and Miss Fair.
