LABOUR WILL FIGHT ITS OWN BATTLES

NO FUSION POSSIBLE LIBERALS OUT OF QUESTION Labour is to light its own battle at the 1928 General Elections, and, according to Mr. F. N. Bartram, M.P. lor Grey Lynn, there will be two issues and two issues only in the big struggle lor polltical premiership. In the course of a straightforward address at West End last evening, Mr. Bartram drew a pointed distinction between the respective policies of Labour. Reform and United parties, and said what was wanted was to have the Coates party thrown out —lock, stock, and barrel. It had been suggested by a number of people that the Labour Party should link up with some other party. He would oppose any such suggestion with all his strength and power. Mr. Bartram paid some attention to Reforms recent legislative failures. He said their housing scheme was a failure. nnd Reform had not kept promisee in th-.t respect. Although it was pro- ! posed to lend up to 95 per cent, on a k 'ctiou and to build a house, some of 'th r.pp’ic. N ns had been in for over 't* years. And when the loans were at i■..* t granted they were invariably l some £2OO or £3OO short of the sura ! required. The result was that some jof the workers were unexpectedly ‘saddled with an extra £2 a week. Mr. Bartram was well received, and >t cor.elusion was accorded a vote . of thanks.
