TEACHERS OPPOSE SAVINGS BANK SCHEME
IMPASSE AT BELMONT Despite the fact that the Auckland Education Board, after consultation with the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute and the Headmasters’ Association, has advised the Belmont School Committee of its approval of school savings banks, the Belmont teachers, through the head master, persist in their attitude againsi the introduction of the system. Mr. Ernest Lilly, chairman of the School Committee, has now addressed the following letter to the Education Board: “With the approval of the board, school committees may from time to time establish savings banks for the use of the children attending the schools.” It is contended in some quarters, he points out, that the work in this connection might justly be included in the duties of the teachers. Advice is sought by Mr. Lilly from the board’s secretary as to the position. Meanwhile, the impasse with the teachers continues.
