In the qualifying rounds for the American open golf championship the Australian player, Rufus Stewart, and the British player, A. Compston, both failed to qualify. Stewart in the first round took 80 strokes, and in the second 83. Compston persistently putted badly. Stewart’s drives lacked distance throughout, and he appeared to be unable to improve his gapae, in face of the stexii competition.
