SOUTHERN MOTORISTS
MEETING OF UNION INSPECTORS’ RIGHT TO FINES OPPOSED Press Association. TIMARU, Friday. The quarterly meeting of delegates to the South Island Motor Union was held here to-day. In regard to reflectors on bicycles, it was decided to draw the attention of the police to the necessity for seeing that these are so fixed that they will reflect. A remit from Marlborough suggesting the prevention of road-racing or record-breaking trips was rejected. The meeting considered the present regulations were ample to deal with the question. A motion was carried that horsedrawn vehicles carrying only one light in front should be compelled to carry a rear light. It was reported th© Balclutha Borough Council had appointed a traffic inspector at £2 a week, plus fines. The principle involved in such a method of payment was considered thoroughly bad and it was decided to Protest to the Government against such terms of appointment.
