A CHARMING BEDDER
THE SHOWY VERBENA Among perennial plants few are more attractive than the verbena, but f as yet their merits as a first rate suo--1 ject for garden bedding schemes or for cutting for interior decoration are not appreciated as they deserve. They remain favourites with all who .grow them, and at this season, when seed catalogues are arriving, all amateurs who do not know them should make a point of ordering a packet of seeds. They make admirable bedding plants and are to be valued for their glowing and artistic shades of colour showing a wide range, their excellent habit of growth and their long period of bloom —all qualities that should commend them to the amateur. They provide a decorative display in the greenhouse if grown on in pots. Seeds may be sown in autumn and spring in boxes and the seedlings gradually hardened off before planting out. We recommend all amateurs to give them a trial in the garden. They will furnish the most charming decoration in either beds or borders.
