HOUSING THE DESTITUTE

WAREHOUSE AT PARNELL The need of providing accommodation for the large number of homeless men is urgent, and with this in view a small committee has been set up and a warehouse in Parnell Road has been rented. The committee consists of Canon Percival James, the Rev. L. Dalby, and the Rev. Mr. Jordan, of New Lynn, in conjunction with Mr. Fred Potter, who last year engaged and managed the doss house in Federal Street. The new home will accommodate from SO to 100 men each night. It is hoped to open the home on July 1 if the public gives the necessary support. Donations toward the payment of the rent and the providing of beds and bedding are needed, and also for the purpose of providing hot cocoa for the men. Canon Grant Cowen has consented to act as treasurer, and subscriptions may be sent to him at St. Matthew’s vicarage.
