Auckland Bowling Clubs Review Year
ANNUAL MEETINGS ELECTIONS OF OFFICERS Indications of the enthusiasm shown here in bowling were given at the annual meetings last night of Auckland clubs connected with the sport. At all the meetings, substantial attendances were gratifying features. Auckland Club At the meeting of the Auckland Club, Mr. G. Macky, retiring president, was m the chair and Mr. E. A. Craig was installed as incoming president. Events of the year were fully covered by the committee’s report, and special mention was made of the new green, now being constructed. Gratification was shown at the almost complete reinstatement of the pavilion, destroyed by fire in January last. The treasurer’s report showed the total income amounted to £S92 and the expenditure to £731. leaving a credit balance of over £l6l to be carried to the credit of the capital account. The membership of the club now stands at 160. The report and balance sheet were adopted. Favouring the re-enactraent of daylight saving, a resolution was passed, and a. decision to enter the Auckland Centre’s pennant competition was made. THE BENDIGO BOWLS The champion rink competition, initiated last year for the Bendigo Bowls, was discussed at length. The entry of a team this year was approved, with a recommendation that the competition be on the two-life system. The following method of selection of the club’s team was recommended:—The selection by the match commitee of six skips, each skip to select his own team, the six teams to compete for the honour of going forward as the club's representatives. Ponsonby Pairs Tourney The pairs tournament arranged by the Ponsonby Bowling Club was successfully carried out. although it was considerably handicapped by weather conditions. In spite of the interruptions by rain, some good bowling and close finishes were witnessed. One pair tied in each of four games, but Parsons, with F. Carbines as lead, and Best, with Goodacre, won their respective sections. The final will be played on June 24 ’•♦'suits: Section A.—First round: Ormerod, Hill, won by default; Carbines.
