EPSOM TRACK SOFT
FAST WORK OUT OF QUESTION FEW TACKLE THE TASKS Attracted by the fine weather conditions there was a large assemblage of light-harness enthusiasts at Alexandra Park this morning in the hope of witnessing the final training operations. The heavy state of the tracks, however, were against anything in the nature of fast work being undertaken. As on the two previous days, trainers generally were content to restrict their charges to jogging exercise, but a few elected to make the tasks solid, despite the unpleasant and unsuitable muddy conditions prevailing. W Head gave Raima sound work and the Hawke’s Bay trotter fairly revelled in the task. The manner in which he got through the heavy going augurs well for his prospects to-mor-row The same trainer kept The Shrewbowling along over several circuits and she paced in fine style and made many friends for her Cornwall Handicap engagement Cora Tacks Pleases Looking in great heart, Cora Tacks was kept busy by R. Kearns over several furlongs, which she covered attractively. The Ashhurst mare is in fine fettle for her exploits at the meeting. Kolmar trotted steadily in a work over half-a-dozen circuits. Charlie Willetts has the Nelson Bingen gelding well forward. Easy work was Uramic’s portion, and the Normanby pacer is nice and robust. Tamerlane (A. E. Russell) was not extended while traversing several rounds, and while the pace was not on, the Canterbury trotter showed signs of being slightly lame. Otherwise no fault can be found with his condition, and it is probable that when warmed up the ailment will not be pronounced. All Bell, revelling in the mud, set a solid pace over a mile, and W. Cockbill's charge will not be altogether friendless in the Cornwall Handicap. Well-conditioned Team Without attempting anything fast, Jack Shaw’s team was given useful work. The condition of the local contingent was the subject of much favourable comment by visiting enthusiasts. The Cambridge representative, Dealer, under the guidance of owner Saunders, went pleasingly over a few circuits, handling the heavy going like a tradesman. The recent racing has proved beneficial to the Hova gelding. Sebisca, who has never looked better, was indulged in long, steady work and appears in fine heart for his heats. Others present doing jogging exercise were Cardinal Logan, Daytime, Imprint, Peter Bingen, Jackie Audubon, Quality. Kempton, Harry Audubon, Henry Logan, Free Advice, Roma Bingen, Peterwah, Napland, Taipare, Bingen Starr, Scandal, Call Boy, Great Actress, Real the Great, Peter Swift, The Tartar, Colonel Thorpe, Tiger Salve, Dick Dillon. Many of the visitors elected to wait for this afternoon in the hope of the track having dried sufficiently to allow of more pleasant conditions.
