HUGE BUYING FROM U.S.A.

COMMERCE OF EMPIRE BRITAIN URGED TO ACTION (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association) LONDON, Wednesday. The “Daily Express” says that out of an export trade of £1,000,000,000 the United States is selling 44 per cent, to the British Empire. This colossal figure shows that even in the Empire markets, where sentiment gives preferences in favour of the British manufacturer, a great volume of business eludes him. The Empire’s commercial future, says the paper, depends on not muddling this greatest of business opportunities. The Empire is in danger of being turned into a counter for the display and sale not of British, but of American manufactures. British firms should combine to flood the Empire with keen young Englishmen, who would search the Empire for orders.
