SMART HACKS
SEEN AT NAPIER HASTINGS FORM INCORRFrr IN SOME INSTANCES 7 (Special to TUB JpiTJ | HASTINGS, On the flat there was some in. ins form at the Napier Par It teres ’-- and one of the hacks that™^'®* marked down for something ** on in the season is Royal Lamond gelding who won at Rati’ th last season and paid a nice prkTT® l Lineage was not at his best raced at Napier, but he has done? t oi work and will not take longte 1 thoroughly fit. His form at to-day can he discounted Another who can he kept in mi „„ Dishonoured, one ot the team cornmiJ' by J. H. Jeft'erd. the big side, but began like showed a whole lot of speed in his He is one of the Paper Monev and is very solid coking. His Impediment was a very speedv and was a full sister to that and Auckland Cup winner. Karo ing from a mare of Impediment’s ing. Dishonoured should be good a* in any case his career will b € f ollo r°: with interest by students of breedirUnder Suspicion Few hacks have been duing be - work than Fee Simple, but for ent he is under a cloud. He has a. *v- i and was not raced at Naphr Park K it was reported that his case was n-- 1 at all serious, so it should not h long before he is seen at his best ani A much improved Hawke’s Bay hack is Dreamy, a winner at Napier Par The track work that Dreamy had becdoing drew attention to her prior the meeting and in her race she tzright up to form and beat her oppor ents (including Dishonoured) poinuesv She handled the soft going so well th? it looks like her winning again, si-, was a bit unlucky to be beaten tbi afternoon. Rory ilor is coming on nicely, air will be all the better for the race hud at Napier Turk, as he looked to be just a little below his best then George New added to his long l :s of wins for the season when he k in Wanderlust at Napier Park mcctir; He has the Rangitero gelding in grtv heart and the manner in which he worried the opposition out oi the big mi handicap showed how good his coni: tion was. Wanderlust is only a moderate, but New has him so well thr followers of recent form will do we? to bear the Napier performance ir mind; it was a good one. To-da*> showing was rather disappointin: however. An Unlucky Hors* Beaumont is at his best again and was somewhat unlucky to lose the big race at Napier Park. The field waa a big one and he covered a great deal oi extra ground. He finished better than anything—better than the winner—was beaten by nothing more than « head. He is hitting out well now that the tracks are soft, and as he is a horse well up to a bit of weight, his party expect to win a race or two wiih him this winter. Huikai found the mile at Napier Park rather far for him, but up to sever furlongs he will take a lot of catchinp and with a little racing he might set out a fair mile. Mountain Heath was set a rather hard task at Napier Park, and in a litle easier company will be found knocking at the door. He is harden ing up nicely and will not be long in reaching the top of his form. When High Heather was defeated at Napier Park she was not seen In her true colours. A lot too much use was made of her, and when she is mor? carefully ridden there will be a different tale to tell. No easier win could have been regi.' tered than that of Essential at the Napier fixture. He was hardly sightc: till after the straight was reached, ami then he smothered the field and won by several lengths. So easily did he *in giving the field a dozen length start into the straight that one wonder* how much he had up his sleeve. I: looked as if he was most unlucky a: Hastings to-day.
