TRANSVAAL BEWILDERED
BEST DISPLAY SEEN YET COMMENT ON THE MEN (Special to Press Association.) Received 10.30 a.m. POTCHEFSTROOM, Wed. The only weak link in the New Zealand backs was Sheen, who played below form, dropping passes, and holding on too long. The inside backs played brilliantly, and of the threequarters Lucas, with flue all-round play, was the most outstanding.
Stewart gave a versatile exhibition as rover, combining with the backs in fine style. M. Brownlie, Alley and" Finlayson shone in the front division. Hadley played his usual sound game, but was hardly fit again after his enforced spell. The display of the whole team was the most spectacular to date. The Transvaal team, for the better part of the game, was bewildered: but several times it rallied, and its try was the result of quick opportunism, which caught the New Zealand defence spreadeagled. De Wet and Myburgh gave good displays behind the Transvaal pack, while Marais, Berman and Steenkamp were toilers among the forwards. New Zealand carried nearly all the line-outs throughout the game, but in the second spell both sides got an equal share of the ball from the scrums.
