RIALTO AND REGENT. EPSOM
“THE NOOSE” Nickie Elkins, the young rum-runner, who so narrowly escapes the gallows, is assured a permanent place in the screen’s role of honour as the result of Richard Barthelmess’s fine portrayal of this character in “The Noose,” which will be shown to-night at the Rialto and Regent (Epsom) Theatres. Barthelmess gives to the central figure of the story a vitality and sincerity that comes only from natural acting, and his performance in this role is one of the best he has ever done. ‘‘The Noose” is a screen version of a sensational stage play of the same name, and tells a vivid story of the underworld and a boy who is led into evil ways by bad companions. Lina Basquette, pretty Follies dancer, is seen opposite Barthelmess, playing Dot, the cabaret girl. Thelma Todd is the society queen, and Alice Joyce is the governor’s wife. “Rash Privates,” a merry war comedy starring Lya de Putti and Malcolm McGregor, will also be shown.
