“BEREFT OF SENSE”
SITE OF HOSPITAL BLOCK NEW ESTIMATE GIVEN “The man must be bereft of sense to suggest the placing of the infectious diseases block on the top of the hill alongside the Domain Drive,” declared Mr. W. Wallace, chairman of the Hospital Board yesterday. The Director-General, acting on advice, had written suggesting that the new block should be placed “nearer the top of the hill,” and Mr. Wallace’s remark was made against Dr. Valentine’s adviser. “Ask Dr. Maguire and he will tell you that the site suggested is most unsuitable,” said the chairman. The board’s architects, Messrs. Brown and Kirk, submitted a new estimate of £33,500 for the block. Mr. M. J. Coyle wanted to know why the first estimate had been “about £10,000” more. Air. AI. J. Savage, M.P., said he was against cutting out anything which would affect the efficiency of the buildings. It was decided to ask that the site should not be shifted. The cost of the building was referred to the building committee for a report
