BOAT-OWNERS’ RISKS
ANCHORAGE AT POINT RESOLUTION AREA NOT TO BE CANCELLED Exposure to heavy weather from the east is making the protected anchorage for yachts and launches to the eastward of the eastern tide deflector unsafe, according to a report received by the Auckland Harbour Board yesterday. It was suggested by the harbourmaster that, as rental period expired on June 30, the area should be cancelled. Mr. M. H. Wynyard, who presided, pointed out that a protected area was protected by the board from being used by other craft, but not from storms. It would be unfair, he considered, to cancel the area, as it would cause great inconvenience to owners of the craft using the area. Inside the deflector the area was “full up.” and there would be great difficulty in finding other anchorages. Other members agreed with 1 Mr. Wynyard, stating that they knew of craft which had used the anchorage complained of for many years, and suffered no ill-effects from storms. It was decided not to cancel the area, but to warn lessees that the Harbour Board recognised no obligation in the event of damage being done to their boats through storms.
