“NOT DELIVERING GOODS” HOSPITAL BOARD CRITICISM L>ttle confidence in the South Island sanatoria was expressed by the Auckland Hospital Board yesterday when it was notified of the early arrival in Auckland of the tuberculosis inquiry committee. “Otaki sanatorium is not in a suitable place.” said Mr. W. Wallace, the chairman. “Patients have come back from Otaki and done much better at Epsom. There should be one sanatarium for the North Island somewhere on high, bracing country on the Main Trunk line. The boards of the North Island should see if they can do anything to formulate a new scheme. Mr. M. J. Coyle: I don’t believe they deliver the goods even after the enormous expense of the institutions in the South Island. If we established one here the people would realise what hospital rates are. The patients in the South leaves, but in six months they are back again worse than ever before. "The whole thing will end in smoke,” said Mr. J. Howe, optimistically. It was decided that evidence should be given to the committee.
