“METROPOLIS”
AMAZING FILM PRODUCTION A British film critic writes: “There has never been a film like ‘Metropolis.’ It is a whirl of amazing scenes—creative ingenuity working at the highest possible pressure. It is ‘Caesar’s Column,’ ‘Looking BaclCvard/ and ‘Frankenstein’ in one. ” According to Fritz Lang, the producer, 25,000 men appear in the crowds, and 11,000 women. The labourers’ costs amounted to £ 80,000. The cost of the costumes is stated to be £IO,OOO, and the entire amount spent on the whole production is said to be well over £300,000. The theme of “Metropolis” is the dream of a city 100 years hence. It is efficiency, mechanism in place of humanity, humanity without a soul. “Metropolis” is to be shown in Auckland at Everybody’s Theatre next week.
