POTATO MARKET FIRM

CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday.
The firmer tendency recorded in the week-end report in regard to potatoes has continued, and yesterday the market was very keen. Business for June was done at £6 a ton, f.0.b., s.i., an advance in the last ten days of about 20s a ton. To-day there is a steadying in the advance, but prices are unaltered. Later months’ have improved a little in comparison, the advance covering about 7s 6d. There has been a fair amount of July-September business at £6 10s f.0.b., s.i. The Wingatui took 1.100 sacks from Lyttelton yesterday and 1,300 from Timaru. A big quantity was shut, out and will go North by the Waipiata, which will take up to 5,000 sacks.
Oats are a shade firmer than at the week-end. and business was done to-day at 4s 3d f.0.b., s.i., for A Gartons. B grade are not showing so much activity. The respective on truck prices are 3s Sd and 3s 4d.
Most of the wheat purchases by millers are of No. 2 grade at about 5s 6d on trucks. Prime milling is firm at 5s Sd to 5s B.RI.
Seeds retain the position noted last week. Perennial and white clover are in good request, but all seeds are firm.
