NATIVE KING GONE SOUTH
Mr. G. W. Watkins, who returned to Christchurch from a trip to the North Island recently, brought with him the well-known trotting stallion Native King, who has been held on lease for some time in the Manawatu district. Native King, though a comparatively young horse, has already proved a success at the stud, for he is sire of a crack trotter in Native Star 4.30 2-5, and Native Prince, a pacer likely to enter the first flight. Native King is a royal-bred one, for he is by Nelson Bingen from Norice, the latter a great brood mare, who besides Native King left Nelson Derby, Nelson Fame and Lord Derby, also Queen Cole, dam of Coiene Pointer, and grand-dam of Kingcraft. In 1923 Native King won the Dominion Trottinn Handicap, completely outclassing the field, and it seems that one of his daughters in Native Star is going to eclipse his own great record. Nothing has been decided upon concerning the • uture of the Nelson Bingen horse, \.no is in great fettle.
