Pure Gaiters Will Stage Good Bouts

BIG FIELD OF IMPROVERS HIGH CLASS IN STEWARDS’ The jnhoppled trotter, always a favourite with the sporting public, will play its part nobly in providing interest and excitement in the proceec ings at Alexandra Park on Saturday and Wednesday next, and some of the best trotters in the Dominion will be seen in action during the carnival. Two events are carded each day for the special benefit of the squaregaiters, while some of the more advanced exponents of this fine art will measure strides in other heats with the hoppled brigade, and those who tackle the pacers can be relied upon to add a whole heap of interest to the mixed items and make things generally pretty difficult for their pacing opponents. In addition to the four trotting events of the handicap class at the approaching fixture, a special item of interest will be provided on the second day card, when the crack two-year-old trotters, First Wrack and Koro Peter, will meet in a bout to decide the New Zealand championship. This heat will create additional interest in the proceedings. and both youngsters will count a host of friends in the encounter which is unique in the Dominion’s trotting circles. Winter Handicap Each handicap event for the puregaited division is run over a two-mile course, and that of the lesser lights, or improving class, carries a £3OO stake with a 4.54 limit. Twenty colour the card in this section, with five promising ones on the end of the handicap. Roez and Colonel Thorpe have a good share of pace, but are not dependable when the colours are up. Etta Cole is a filly that shows fine promise and will be better served with age, while Call Boy has collected a couple of first certificates recently, and is in form. Akenehi completes the limit lot, and although the only one of them without a win to her credit may be the pick of the front garden. The grey daughter of Peter Moko made her bow to a racing public at Hastings, where she gained manv friends through her display. Dillon S. is far from being a novice, but may be overshadowed by the consistent and improving Repute

on the same mark, the pair being just behind the front-rankers. WAn recent winning form in her favour Repute will be a big fancy. Kolmar, the speedy but erratic Taranaki representative, and old Golden Gate form the next row. and Kolmar if caught in the humour might just upset all calculations. Then on his lonesome comes the disappointing Bingen Starr, and on a 4.51 mark it should only be a jog for him, if he would repeat his pacing form. But “if” always plays a leading part with this customer. Those two doughty opponents. Gold Star and Roma Bingen are together in the next line, and they will have a chance to fight their country battles over again. The latter has never looked better during her racing period, and if she can handle the going will be. a thorn in the side of the opposition. Three solid customers appear on the 4.48 peg. Gold Sovereign, Sebisca and Appeal, and the latter, who raced so well at Epsom last June, will not be overlooked by speculators, while Gold Sovereign is working well at Mangere. Twelve yards further back is Anseline, Raima and Maxegin, and while Raima will probably receive the most support, and probably be one of the favourites on the day. Anseline will be troublesome. Floraline, on 4.46. can handle the Alexandra Park track to perfection, while The Tartar, who holds pride of place on 4.44, can yet give the lot a fright if he makes up his mind to hop out and do his work correctly. It is a sound field for a race of this class, and half a dozen whose prospects are held in respect are Akenehi, Repute, Roma Bingen, Appeal, Anseline and Raima.
