RENNIE’S APPEAL

COMES UP NEXT WEEK COMMITTEE’S POWERS DECREASE AND INCREASE SENTENCE So far W. Rennie is the only one of the three disqualified jockeys to lodge an appeal against the decision of the Judicial Committee of the Rotorua Racing Club, in which Rennie and A. J. Gilmer were disqualified for 12 months ,and J. Mcßae for six months, for corrupt practice at the Rotorua meeting last February. Rennie’s appeal will be considered by the Auckland District Committee on Thursday, June 28. Appeals to the District Committee must be made within 14 days of the decision being given, so that it is open to the other disqualified jockeys to lodge their appeal up to June 28 if they desire. The Auckland District Committee has the power, upon considering the appeal, or whether there be an appeal or not, to either approve of the decision of the Judicial Committee in whole or in part, or vary or reverse the same, and may increase or diminish any disqualification or fine thereby imposed. That power is provided for in rule 13 (an unlucky number), Part XXX., of the Rules of Racing. The hearing of the appeal will be awaited with considerable interest, more particularly if the other two jockeys also follow Rennie’s example and place their case in the hands of the District Committee.
