DAY RACE IN FRANCE WORLD RECORD BROKEN British Official Wireless RUGBY", Monday. Details are now to hand of the 24 hours’ motor race at Le Mans, France, in 'which a British Bentley car driven by Captain Wolf Barnarto and Mr. Rubin, two English amateurs, was first. The race was over the Sartho circuit. There were also French, Italian and American competitors. The winners broke the world's reccrd for the distance covered in 24 hours on a road. The distance completed was 2,669 kilometres (about 1,670 miles), the previous record being 2,414 kilometres (about 1,519 miles). Although the race was continued through the night and the morning fog, the average speed, including halts to change drivers and refill the tanks, was 60A miles an hour. The Bentley car finished about 60 miles ahead of the next competitor. Last year the race was also won by a Bentley car, driven by Messrs. Benajafield and Davis.
