TOUR DE FRANCE RACE

BIG CYCLING EVENT (United P.A. —By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian P.A.—United Service) Reed. noon. PARIS, Monday. News from Cherbourg states that in the second lap of the Tour de France cycle race Leducq was first and Frantz second. Opperman (N.S.W.) was 25th, only 12 minutes behind the winner. Watson (N.Z.) and Osborne (Victoria) were 30th and 31st. Bainbridge was 41st. Opperman finished the first stage of the Tour de France race —Paris to Caen —in the 19th place. Osborne finished 24th and Watson 25th. It is expected that the team’s form will improve as the race continues, but it is almost impossible to compete adequately without a larger team. The Australian and New Zealand team competing in the race comprises H. Opperman (New South Wales), E. Bainbridge (Victoria), P. Osborne (Victoria), and H. Watson (New Zealand).
