PROGRESS IN BUILDING REMOVAL OF SAND FROM BEACHES During the month 28 applications to erect dwellings, garages, sheds and for alterations, to the total value of £12,357, were received by the Manukau County Council. Notices were issued to clear noxious weeds on road frontages, and also to clear a watercourse of obstructions, on Kenderdine Road, Papatoetoe. The inspector reported at the council meeting to-day that he was investigating a complaint regarding persons removing sand at Cockle Bay and other beaches. He recommended that notices be posted at Cockle Bay warning persons of the offence of removing sand Notices should also be posted on the other beaches. The report was adopted. The engineer, Mr. J. R. Page, reported that notification of the gazettaJ of new main highways had not yet been received. Repairs to Mangere Bridge had been continued, operations now being confined to reinstating sea-walls on approaches. A survey for purposes of widening the approach to Buckland Beach, via Hattaway Avenue, had been made and a plan was being prepared. On the Great South Road maintenance work had received attention. From now on operations in the Turanga Riding are to be restricted to maintenance and surface work on a small scale. The Public Works Department advised the payment of £439 15s 3d to the council's account, which was credited as Wade's Bridge £l5O and the AlfristonPapakura grant £259 15s 3d.
