The ladies of the Sports Motor-cycle Club have now formed a separate body, and will In future function as the Ladies’ Progressive Motor-cycle Club. It is not always realised that the hydrometer has another use beside that of testing the specific gravity of the cells, for this is about the best accessory obtainable for refilling the battery with distilled water, the hydrometer being used as a syringe. News has been received by Messrs. Merson Bros., Auckland agents for the popular Harley-Davidson motor-cycles, that the factory is making plans to produce a light-twin Harley-Davidson, probably about GOO c.c.
Mr. J. K. Starley, of the Rover Company, will visit New Zealand this year to discuss the requirements of the Dominion with dealers. He will be the fourth British car representative to investigate colonial conditions since the official delegation of 1927 drew the attention of manufacturers to the potentialities of the Dominion markets. Brakes should be evenly adjusted, so that when pressure is applied it will be equal on all wheels, says an article in the “Goodyear News.” If one wheel exerts more braking power than another, there is an additional effort made by that tyre in stopping the car, which wears the tread rubber away more quickly than on the other tyres. Sudden and severe use of the brakes, causing the tyres and slide and scrape, also wears away the tread rapidly, thus cutting down your tyre mileage considerably. Careful driving is necessary’ to get the maximum mileage from your tyres. No tyre can stand up for long to the severe demands of reckless driving.
