GOLDEN WEDDING
MR. AND MRS. WORDSWORTH CELEBRATIONS AT TE KOPURU DARGAVILLE, Monday. Mr. and Mrs. William Wordsworth, of Te Kopuru, Northern Wairoa, celebrated their golden wedding on Friday under happy circumstances, all members of the family, numbering 61, being present for the occasion. The event was celebrated by a wedding breakfast in the Coronation Hall, Te Kopuru A feature of the function was the presentation to the bride by two of her young grandchildren of a beautiful bouquet, and to the bridegroom of a buttonhole of maidenhair fern and flowers. The happy couple received many congratulatory telegrams and letters, and the bridegroom responded to several addresses that were *?iven. Mr. and Mrs. Wordsworth were married at the residence of the bride’s parents, Te Kopuru, on June 15, 1878, by the Rev. Archdeacon Maunsell. Mrs. Wordsworth (nee Miss Hannah West) was born in Chichester, Sussex, England, and arrived in New Zealand with her parents in 1873. The family settled at Te Kopuru. Mr. Wordsworth was born in Yorkshire in 1852, being the youngest son of Mrs. George Wordsworth, Sheffield, England. In 1876 he emigrated to New Zealand, landing at Wellington. Later he arrived in the Northern Wairoa, taking up a position as sawyer at the Aratapu mill. Fourteen years later Mr. Wordsw'orth left the mill to take up farming. Eight son, three daughters, 33 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren are the living members of Mr. and Mrs. Wordsworth’s family.
