EVERYBODY’S
“PALS IN PARADISE” “Pals in Paradise,” a new style of Western story is now being shown at the Everybody’s Theatre. This picture tells the story of a modern gold rush. Everything in it is up-to-date—none of the ancient methods employed in western pictures, whiskey-drinking miners, with guns at their hips, burros, chuck wagons and the like. The miners are well dressed, everybody travels in flivvers or sedans, the women are dressed in the pink of fashion and the residents of Paradise swallows soft drings only I Yet despite this reversal of old mining picture traditions, “Pals in Paradise” is distinctly one of the best we have seen in many months. •John Bowers as the hero-—a young gold prospector—is an admirable foil to Marguerite De La Motte, a gritty girl with whom he falls in love. Both are excellent in their portrayals. “Rash Privates,” a happy war oomedv starring Lya de Putti and Malcolm McGregor is the second feature. One prince and two Russian generals who fled from their land because of the revolution, are among the players supporting John Gilbert and Greta Garbo in “Anna Karenina,” or “Love,” Metro-Gold wyn-Mayer screen version of Tolstoy’s famous classic. They are Prince Youcca Troubetzkoy and Generals Theodore Lodi and Michael Plesohkoff, both formerly of the Imperial Russian Army. Gilbert and Miss Garbo play the tragic lovers in this vivid drama, which Edmund Gouiding directed with George Fawcett. Brandon Hurst, Emily Fitzroy, Philippe dc Lacey and a notable cast.
