DENTIST CHARGED
MANGERE BRIDGE SMASH DECISION RESERVED The hearing of the charges against W. W. Faulder, an Auckland dentist, of being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car, negligent driving, and failing to report an accident, was continued in the Onehunga Police Court yesterday afternoon. Mr. Johnstone, for the accused, endeavoured to show that Faulder’s driving was not in any way dangerous to the public, and that the police had failed to prove that he was intoxicated. “Stopping and asking pedestrians if they would like a ride was not consistent with drunkenness,” said Mr. Johnstone. “It might be!” retorted the magistrate, Mr. F. H. Levien. Mr. Johnstone further contended that there was no proof that Faulder was in the car at the time of the accident, but the magistrate said that the fact of someone calling out: “Ifs all right, father!” indicated that the speaker was Faulder. “It is the accumulated effect of all the details of the case that I have to consider, and not the specific evidence of any particular witness.” said Mr. Levien, who reserved his decision until Monday, July 2.
