“I’M PROUD OF HIM”
WIDOW RECEIVES HONOUR FOR LATE HUSBAND BRAVERY REWARDED “I am very proud of him—that’s all I can say,” said Mrs. Percy White, as the Mayor of Onehunga, Mr. W. C. Coldicutt, presented her with the Royal Humane Society’s in memoriam certificate, before the meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council last evening. Mr. J. E. Cowell, the society’s representative in Onehunga, had previously explained that the court of directors in Christchurch had forwarded the certificate in recognition of ' the gallant action of the late Mr. Percy White, who lost his life at Cornwallis on January 30 last in an attempt to rescue Stanley Pearce from drowning. Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P., said that had the late Mr. White considered his own condition, the result of war injuries, he would not have thrown himself into the water. He must be classed among those heroes who had lost their lives as a result of their war services. “Surely,” said Mr. Jordan, “the nation will not allow his dependants to suffer.”
