MR. J. H. LUXFORD’S RULING QUESTION The objection of Mr. J. H. Luxford. S.M.. to town clerks appearing \ in court on behalf of municipal cor- | porations in by-law cases promises to raise a mild storm, j The town clerk, Onehunga, lias rei ported to his council that on June k !Mr Luxford refused to allow him to j appear in a by-law case contending that a duly-authorised solicitor should be engaged by the informant, and that the profession should be protected. The Onehunga Council, in committee, accepted Mr. Luxford’s ruling, and recommended that in future a solicitor should be employed. When this recommendation came up for discussion at the meet! ✓ of the council last evening, the Mayor. Mr. W. C. Coldicutt. said that since the above recommendation had been made, further information had reached him which went to show that there was no legal impediment to the town clerk appearing in court on behalf ctf the council in by-law cases, and on his motion the recommendation was struck out.
