Speaking before the Canadian Seed Grovers’ Association, Dr. Robert Magill, secretary of the Winnipeg Grain Exchange, gave alarming figures on the lowering quality of Canadian grain. A 1927 crop inspected in Winnipeg yielded only one car of No. 1 hard wheat, from 350,000 cars inspected. The total of wheat inspected at Winnipeg yielded only 1 per cent, of No. 1 Northern, and only 6 or 7 per cent, of No. 2 Northern. The situation is the worst that has ever developed. A net turnover of £157,597, compared with £179,358 for the previous year, is shown in the balance sheet of the Australian Glass Manufacturers’ Company for the year ended March 31, 1928. The -usual nine per cent, preference dividend absorbed £15,750 and ten per cent, on ordinary capital £93,047. The directors have added £55.000 to reserves and carried forward £72,031, an increase of £20,800. AUCTION NOTES Robert C.
