THE OTHER LEG

CORNWALL HANDICAP Fifteen speedy pacers have stood their ground in the Cornwall Handicap, a mile flutter for those that can go 2.13 or better. Eight of the acceptors claim an engagement earlier in the day, figuring in the principal event, and the form of some of these may prove a good guide in selecting the winner of the final heat. But there are some very speedy customers among the “fresh” contingent, and they will certainly invest the race with plenty of interest. Harold Thorpe Likes It Soft Of the half-dozen on the end, Lady Dunmore and Talent, who figure in the big go, may not be ready for another severe test on the same afternoon, but

The Shrew, Western King, Henry Logan and Harold Thorpe will come up nice and fresh. The Shrew had a run at Hastings and showed that all is well with her, and she should scamper a merry mile. Henry Logan is a greatly improved pacer and Harold Thorpe is fast coming back to form. He is no stranger to Alexandra Park and last June revelled in the heavy going. W T estern King will lack the racing experience his opponents have had this season and will be at a disadvantage, but his track essays are of such a healthy nature that J. Shaw’s pacer must be given a good chance of being in the picture. Just behind the limit crowd is Dalmeny and All Bell. The former’s display in the two-mile will have some influence on his prospects here, and should he just fail in the Mark Memorial then he will keep the milers busy and may repeat his Forbury Park performance, although he will not be allowed to pay such a price. Old All Bell will be at home if the going is holding, and being still such a splendid beginner, if he hits the front the others will have a hard job to head him off. The Second Up Policy Tom Thumb, Sea Pearl, Imprint and Cardinal Logan are next, and all will probably i:ake their places earlier in the Mark Memorial. Their doings in that heat will serve to provide food for thought later in the day. The same applies to Logan Chief, and as he is such a solid miler, providing he dodges a penalty earlier, he will have a good following in this item. Peter Bingen, on the same mark, has not been over raced this season, but showed recently that he is on the road to form and this will ensure him many friends on Saturday. Peter will be one of the toughgest nuts to crack when they come in line for the judge. Pride of place in the field is given fe© Jewel Pointer, but his job is a stiff one and his party may be content to pin their faith to the other string, Western King. HAROLD THORPE, WESTERN KING, THE SHREW and PETER BINGEN will make things decidedly interesting for those of the Mark Memorial runners who harness up again, of whom DALMENY and LOGAN CHIEF may do best.
