MAGISTRATES DISAGREE

EXPIRY OF DRIVERS’ LICENCES MR. J. H. LUXFORD’S RULINGS (Special to THE SUN) MARTON, Sunday. “I disagree entirely with Mr. J. H. Luxford’s decision in regard to the expiry of motor drivers licences, and although there may be an anomaly in the Act, the question resolves itself into one of interpretation, and it ii surely common-sense that licences should expire every year.” Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., expressed himself thus in the Marton Court yesterday when Mr. J. R. L. Stanford brought up the question in defence of a driver who had not renewed his licence. “I am in accord with Mr. Page, Mr. Platts, Mr. Cruickshank. and I must convict,” he added. “Another of Mr. Luxford’s innovations is to stop town clerks appearing in Court on behalf of their local bodies,” continued the magistrate, “and I disagree with that also. It is a point of courtesy to permit the practice."
