SIR ALEX. MUDDIMAN DEAD VALUED WORK IN INDIA (United P.A. —By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian P.A.—United Service) Reed. 10.30 a.m. CALCUTTA, Sunday. Sir Alexander Muddiman has died suddenly of heart failure. The Government loses one of its ablest and most tactful servants. Sir Alexander Phillips Muddiman, Knight Commander of the Star of India, and Commander of the Order of the Indian Empire, has been Governor of the United Provinces of Agra and Ondh since 1927. He was Home member of the Executive Council of the Governor-General, and Leader of the Assembly from 1924 to 1927. He was born in 1875, and was educated at the Wimborne School. He entered the Indian Civil Service in 1897; served in Beliar in various capacities; Under-Sec-retary to the Government of Bengal, 1903; Registrar of the High Court at Fort William. 1905; additional member of the Executive Council, 1915; Secretary to the Government of India Legislative Department. 1915-21; officiating Law Member, 1919; President of the Council of State, India, 1920-24.
