Jannings Completes Third American Picture
“The Street of Sin”
Emil Jannings, the Brooklyn-born tier man actor, noio in America, and a power in the theatre, has completed his third American-made picture, “The Street of Sin.” His first picture made in the United States was “The Way of All Flesh,” and had Milwaukee and Chicago for its scene. The second, “The Last Command,” was laid in Hollywood, but had a superflicial locale in Russia. “The Street of Sin” goes to" the Limehouse district in London, made famous by Thomas Burke in his “Limehouse Nights” and “Twinkletoes.” Jannings is the king of the district, | ruling by power of I fists an d brute [ force; having resi pect for nothing, ! God or man, and ! cursing his way I through life. Into the district comes a salvation lassie, a delicate, tender, innocent young thing. She fascinates the big man. His passion for her at first is vicious, and evil, but gradually she leads him to see the spiritual side of existence and to be as great a pow T er for good as he had been for evil.
