Wild Storm Wrecks French War-Planes
CAPTAIN KILLED MANY MACHINES CRASH (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) Reed. 11.20 a.m. PARIS, Thursday. Twenty-one bombing planes were night-flying from Nancy to Le Bourget, when between midnight and 3 a.m., a sudden storm struck the formation in the neighbourhood of Paris. Only four reached Le Bourget. The fifth, carrying four persons, crashed at the edge of the airdrome. The occupants were not injured. A twin-motor plane capsized in landing near Meaux. The machine was destroyed, but the crew escaped. Lieutenant Picard’s plane overturned. His pilot had a parachute, and descended safely. Picard had no parachute, and had to remain in the machine. It crashed and he was killed. Four planes were damaged in landing toward Beauvais and Chantilly.
