SAFE BLOWN OPEN
KUMEU POST OFFICE BROKEN INTO CASH, STAMPS AND CHEQUES TAKEN Last evening the post office at Kumeu was broken into and the safe blown open with gelignite. The sum of £2O in cash was taken, in addition to stamps and cheques. Entrance was gained through a . indow in the rear of the building, .vhich is situated on the main road to Helensvill© and a short distance from the Kumeu Railway Station. Miss Wright, the postmistress, left the office last evening at 9 o’clock, after locking the building. When the post boy arrived this morning he found the room in disorder and th€: safe blown open. Letters and papers were scattered round the room. As there have been several instances recently of safes being blown open it would be as well for all storekeepers and others to bank their takings more frequently, and not to leave sums of money locked on the premises.
Th© break at Kumeu may have been done by the thieves who have been active in Auckland recently.
