ELLERSLIE TRADE MARK
AJISTER GAMP is carrying the x marks of his jumping disaster at EMerslie, the Bronzetti gelding being very lame behind, which is further pronounced by the action of his hind leg. He has also lightened up in condition, and whether he will be back to concert pitch in time for Wellington remains to be seen. It will be remembered that Mister Gamp fell at the second to last fence in the Great Northern Hurdles a fortnight ago.
Mixed Heather and Son o' Mine second and third choice respectively. The amateur riders will be abroad in the LADIES’ BRACELET Of £100; li miles. Gaze 12 9 Patuki . . . 10 12 Atareria . . 12 4 Crishna . . . 10 11 Grand BaUyfarnon . 10 9 National . . 11 7 Gaimint . . 10 7 No Favours .11 0 It is probable that Gaze will b> started here in preference to the preceding race. Atareria must have a chance, and it is significant that his owner has decided to take on this event instead of the open handicap. Grand National and No Favours are both fairly speedy, and the others will 'are as well as their riders are able to do them justice. Atareria and Grand National may be in demand. A dozen will be on hand to contest the STEWARDS’ STAKES Of £175; 1 mile. Huikai ... 9 10 Coot 9 0 Beaumont . 9 10 Mountain Epistle ... 9 7 Heath ..90 Addlepate ..94 Royal Time. 9 0 Wanderlust . 9 3 Toapaiti ..90 Kilmoyler ..90 Morose ... 9 0 Othon 9 0 Ranking at the top are Huikai and Beaumont, but with only ten pounds between the whole field the class appears to be pretty even. Beaumont revels in this class of race, but his usual pilot will not be on hand to take the mount. Epistle is more than useful, and she appears to be staying on better. Addlepate may find the open company too good, although he is handily treated. Wanderlust is a good sort when right, and yet there is the chance that he will need a race. Kilmoyler has the pace, and as he is trained on the course by his old mentor he will have to be considered- Of those down the scale also are Coot, Mountain Heath and Royal Time. It promises to be a fine contest, with a big financial demand for Beaumont and Kilmoyler. The meeting concludes with the SETTLERS’ HACK HANDICAP Of £125; 7 fur. Grand King’s Jest . 9 0 National . 10 4 Tanekaha ..90 Merle .... 9 12 Trisogne ..90 Hineka- Havana ... 9 0 torangi ..99 Le Champ ..90 High Delude ... 9 0 Heather . 9 8 Jen 9 0 Clavers ... 9 5 Rakaroa. ..90 Sandburr ..95 Fairy Mark. 9 0 Essential ..94 This is rather a puzzling event to finish up with, but the top weights are not entirely out of it. Grand National, Merle, Hinekatorangi, High Heather, Clavers, Essential, King’s Jest, Le Champ, Jen and Rakaroa are some possessed of speed, and of these it is even difficult to find a favourite. Grand National and Hinekatorangi may dispute that honour.
