LABOUR PARTY BALL IN FANCY DRESS
Soots Hall was gaily decorated with vividly-coloured streamers and balloons last evening when the associated branches of the Auckland Labour Party held their annual fancy dress ball. The costumes were attractive in their diversity of colouring and design, and under the soft glow of many twinkling lights they made a charming picture of ever-changing aspect as their wearers danced around the room. Mr. Colin Shorter and Miss Yvonne Arlen gave several interesting exhibitions of modern dancing during the evening, and a successful euchre tournament was won by Mesdames Cantlon, German and Moore and Messrs. E. S. Agnew, W. Stewart and Mrs. M. David. The prizes for the fancy dresses were awarded as follows by Miss Edith Sutherland and Mr. F. P. Williams. Most comic costumes: Miss Minus and Miss Veere. Most original: Miss O’Donnell and Mrs. Kerwin. Most fanciful: Mrs. E. E. McLean and Mr. C. Weaver. Best poster: Mr. C. Ryan and Mrs. Ryan. Best propaganda costumes: Mrs. LI. W. Vaughan and Mr. W. Pickering. Mr. H. W. Vaughan and Mr. W. Pickering were responsible for the very successful organisation of the function.
When travelling, take an eiderdown rolled tightly and stuffed into a large cushion-cover. It is a comfortable pillow, and is often useful when there is a drop in the temperature.
