CONFERENCE OPENS examples in other COUNTRIES Press Association. WELLINGTON, Wednesday. * conference in regard to daylight hiking was held to-day. Mr. Watopening for the bakers, said they were not asking for daylight baking, but for t h e cessation of work between 1 p.m. and 4 a.m. , He gave instances ot what had been done in regard to doing away with n <*ht baking. Both Mr. Justice Stringer -id Mr. Justice Sim had expressed the a eW that legislation should be introduced dealing with the subject. The bakers held that the needs of the public could be met with a 4 a.m. start. On behalf of the master bakers, Mr. Burton said that chaos resulted when n y endeavour was made to restrict the hours of baking. A resolution in favour of the system passed at Geneva had to be largely discounted as it was carried at the instance of small European countries, in which conditions were totally different from the conditions in Great Britain and America. Carters and the general public were entitled to consideration. If the proposal were carried it would be necessary for practically everey bakehouse in the Dominion to duplicate its plant. ____________________
