INJURY TO MACINTOSH
The injury recently suffered by C. E. W. Macintosh is the subject of the following letter from “Fair Play,” Devonport: “I was disappointed in reading your report of the injury to Macintosh, the Varsity player, in the game against North Shore. You state that Macintosh was violently tackled after he he had parted with the ball. As an eye witness to the incident I can say that no such thing happened; it was a clean tackle; Macintosh fell, with his leg beneath him, and the weight of Smith, the Shore forward, fell on the twisted leg, the ball being possessed by Macintosh all the time. Had it been a foul you would have been justified in publishing a paragraph, but when teams play fair so should The Sun. Hoping you will at least correct thi« statement, and so clear an innocent team and player.” Independent observers corroborate the statement that Macintosh was the recipient of unnecessary attention, not necessarily deliberate, but nevertheless unnecessary, after he had parted with the ball. It is not correct that Macintosh had the ball throughout, as he got rid of it as he was tackled. — Sports Editor.
