Captain Kingsford Smith has invited Mr. Warner and Captain Lyon, who flew with him from California, to accompany him on his New Zealand flight. Mr. Warner and Captain Lyon, being anxious to return home to. the United States, are withholding their decisions, to see whether any Australians will volunteer for the honour. The aviators yesterday were tendered a civic reception. The route to the Town Hall was lined by cheering crowds. The four airmen to-day will fly to Canberra, where they will be presented with the Federal Government’s cheque for £5,000.

The Minister of Defence has granted permission for the use of .he Wigram Airdrome by the airmen for the conclusion of their trans-Tasman flight, and has agreed that every assistance shall be given to them by the staff of the Air Force stationed there. A telegram to this effect was received at Christchurch yesterday by Mr. P. R. Climie. The Minister has not yet received official notice of the intended flight.
